Essence XXXL Long Lasting Matte Effect Lipgloss in Velvet Rose Review and Swatches!

ISLM Writer: Ishleen

Hello pumpkins!
It has been about 3 months of Ishleen and her nonchalant gibberish here at ISLM now, and if you have been following even an ounce of me, you most probably know that there are only two things in makeup which excite the hell out of me! My nudes and my mattes, and if you got even one of these right in your head, just give your back a pat! So when it comes to trying matte lip glosses which are also nude, you know who is on the beginning of the queue.

So coming to the detailed review! I asked one of my friends to get these babies for me from Germany so I got it for a bit cheap a price than what they are sold for here in India. And oh, these retail for 279 INR and you get 4.5 ml of gorgeously fragranced lip creams for the price!

Price of Essence XXXL Long Lasting Matte Lip Gloss

It costs INR 279/-

Essence describes its XXXL long lasting lip glosses as “Matt-a must! If you love this lip trend, the velvety-matt, long-lasting lip glosses are ideal for you! The light, mousse-like texture lasts on your lips for several hours without drying them out. Particularly easy to apply, thanks to the flat applicator.”

The lip gloss which actually is a lip cream comes in a long cylindrical tube which is very conventional for a regular lip gloss packaging. The tube has a black screw tip lid and is very reliable and sturdy. The applicator attached is a flat tip kind of one which is not the most convenient to create sharp lip lines but it fills the insides of the lips beautifully.

The shade Velvet Rose is indeed a very pretty soft nude with pastel pink tones and a very evident warm unbdertone to it which makes it very wearable for the fair-medium Indian skin tones. As for the duskier skins, this baby is a no no as it will wash you out badly! Apart from being a super gorgeous and well balanced nude shade, it is also a very versatile shade which can be used to tone down your bolder and brighter lipstick shades.

Texture wise this lip gloss is out and out a lip cream and if we ignore the fact that it does not dry up to as matte as NYX soft matte lip creams, i want to take the leap to say that the texture is exactly the same! It feels like a whipped lip cream which is really lightweight and feels luxuriantly velvety on the lips.

One thing which I despise about this gorgeous product is that it does not dry up matte and it does not stay for long. It says it is a long lasting matte lip gloss but it does not do any of those. The lip cream dries up to a velvety semi-matte finish and it transfers to quite some extent. 3 hours tops, and it vanishes all together from the lips. But it is good in the way that it does not crumble or set into the fine lines of the lips, and does not accumulate at the corners of the lips.

Overall Rating:

Do I recommend?

If you are fair to medium skinned and want a gorgeous shade to devour, which is also cheap, go get it right away!

  1. Love the shade and the review. I have come across this while browsing, since I am dusky I skipped this. But it's so beautiful :)

  2. Would wash out my medium skin, so skipped this.
Nice and detailed review Ishleen :)

  3. The shade is gorgeous. But like Ishita mentioned it will work well on fairer skin tones.

Cover The Cover: Harper's Bazaar (India) March 2012

You all know that I love tweaking my blog here and there and making some changes, introducing newer features and well sometimes just hooking the blog onto some social networking site :) Well this time I am introducing a new feature that I promise will be really exciting for all beauty enthusiasts :) To start with this feature is called "Cover The Cover" where I shall be covering the cover pages of our favorite beauty and fashion magazines in terms of make-up. There are times when a certain look on a celeb or a fashion mag just gets to us. Well rather than just mulling over such looks I have decided to give life to such looks (on me) and well do a kind of a faux photo shoot ;) What say? Doesn't it sound like fun? What more? You are all invited to submit your looks with a reference to which magazine and edition you are covering and I'll post it here :)

Today's look is inspired by my latest fav mag Harper's Bazaar. The March edition of Harper's Bazaar is a …

REVIEW: L'Oreal Paris Infallible Blush Paint Longwear High Impact Stick - Fuchsia Fame

Review of L'Oreal Paris Infallible Blush Paint Longwear High Impact Stick - Fuchsia Fame
Right now am sitting at the dining table trying to figure out a way to start this post in an "interesting" way... I am obviously struggling... There are these times when your mind just goes blank and you can't think of anything, right? Yeah, I am having one of those moments...

So, I guess I'll directly dive into the review and not mull around. I bought the L'Oreal Paris Infallible Blush Paint Stick on a whim... I was out window shopping at Shoppers Stop and I just happened to glance at the L'Oreal counter and this cute little stub caught my fancy... The moment I swatched it I knew I had to buy it...

Price of L'Oreal Paris Infallible Blush Paint Stick It costs a whopping INR 999/-

There is nothing much to talk about the packaging. It is exactly what it looks like, a rotating chubby stick with a cap. The plastic doesn't seem cheap and is pretty sturdy. I have d…

REVIEW: Johnson's Baby Lotion on Adult Skin

I am itching to do some makeup EOTDs and LOTDs since a while now but with guests at home I am not getting any time... So for a while you guys are stuck with me doing reviews. Not that my reviews do not need much efforts but as compared to EOTDs and LOTDs, reviews are a little bit less demanding where time constraints are concerned... Don't you agree? :)

Today I shall be reviewing the Johnson's baby lotion and before you raise your eye brows and say to yourself "WTF" let me make it absolutely clear that I bought it when I was out of a moisturiser and needed one pronto! This was the only one available and so I just bought it. I figured if it was good for babies, how could it be bad for me? The truth? Read on ;)

Johnson's Baby Lotion is Clinically proven to be mild and mild it sure is. It has a soft and soothing fragrance, which I love. Once applied it gets absorbed really fast and does not leave a residual oiliness or greasiness. It would be perfect for normal ski…
