Maybelline Color Show Velvet Matte Lipstick In Rock The Coral Review and Swatches!

ISLM Writer: Ishleen

Hello my munchkins!
How is everyone doing? With the changing weather here in Delhi, I had not been keeping well as off late! And you can only imagine how hard it can be for a lazy bum like me to accomodate college, studies, theatre (my new endeavour :P) as well as the duty of an assistant editor for such an esteemed blog! But i cannot thank my stars enough for making me acquainted with this darling soul Samyukta, who never did once complain for my lack of presence on the blog, and in fact asked me to take a day or two off and relax! I love you sam! So now that I am better, and ready to take the world, why not do it with a dash of super gorgeous lipsticks?

So as you have learnt by the title, today  have come up with a very interesting review; for the Maybelline Color Show velvet matte range of lipstick in the shade Rock The Coral!

What does Maybelline have to say?

From the loved Color Show Lipsticks, Maybelline New York is now launching 12 new lipstick shades now in Matte! With stunning hues of red, pink, brown and mauve, these 12 matte, moisture rich shades allow you to express yourself everyday. The ultra-care and super hydrating formula is light and gives you high coverage while caring for your lips. The heat resistant soft waxes in the product ensure texture integrity even at high temperatures. These matte shades have the right amount of moisture, a sweet fragrance and stay true without drying up your lips. Are you ready to show off your colorful sides?

Price and Quantity

INR 325 for 3.9 grams of product (yay!)

If you have used color show range of lipsticks ever in your life (which I am sure you must have, atleast once) then you know exactly how the lipstick looks from the outside! Though there is one difference, that the regular black packaging is matte in texture and lacks that glossy sheen to it, as it is a matte textured lipstick! Other than that the lipstick is classy, sturdy and convenient to carry in your makeup bag!

The name Rock the Coral very conveniently conveys the idea of a bright coral lipstick, and true to its name, Rock the Coral is indeed a very pretty coral shade which Indian Beauties can easily rock! Going in details, the shade is a warm toned coral pink which may look a little pale on deeper skin tones and even wash them out a bit! But for fair to medium skin tones it is a very wearable pinkish coral shade with strong coral undertones!

I love my mattes, and have a creepy obsession for creamy matte lipsticks--but not all mattes are meant to make you happy! *goes in the corner and cries*
I mean I cannot say I out right despise the formula of this lipstick, as it is workable to some extent, but if you have dry and chapped lips, do not even care to read ahead! The shade as pretty it might be, does not apply very well! It goes on patchy, and does settle into fine lines (even after exfoliation). I mean I love the shade and want to love the lipstick as well but the texture just does not let me love it whole-heartedly!

Pigmentation and Coverage

As I said, the shade applies a bit patchy and is also sheer-er than other shades of the range! Though it is very much buildable and can be easily layered to decrease the streaky lip look and also cover up any discolourations on the lips!

Staying Power

being on the lighter side of the spectrum, the shade does not last any more than 5 hours, which is a pretty good deal if you ask me! After 4 hours it starts to fade off from the inner corners of the mouth, but can be reapplied easily as touch up is not messy with this one!

So now that we have gone through each and every aspect of the lipstick, what do you think of this lipstick? Is it a yay or nay for you?

Overall Rating:

Final Verdict

For me it is a yay, solely for the super pretty shade and semi matte finish. Though I would have given it a 5 on 5 had it applied smoothly and not settled into fine lines! :)

  1. I love these lipsticks as they are super pigmented and glides like a dream. Pretty shade :)

  2. I love this shade. Totally beautiful.

Cover The Cover: Harper's Bazaar (India) March 2012

You all know that I love tweaking my blog here and there and making some changes, introducing newer features and well sometimes just hooking the blog onto some social networking site :) Well this time I am introducing a new feature that I promise will be really exciting for all beauty enthusiasts :) To start with this feature is called "Cover The Cover" where I shall be covering the cover pages of our favorite beauty and fashion magazines in terms of make-up. There are times when a certain look on a celeb or a fashion mag just gets to us. Well rather than just mulling over such looks I have decided to give life to such looks (on me) and well do a kind of a faux photo shoot ;) What say? Doesn't it sound like fun? What more? You are all invited to submit your looks with a reference to which magazine and edition you are covering and I'll post it here :)

Today's look is inspired by my latest fav mag Harper's Bazaar. The March edition of Harper's Bazaar is a …

REVIEW: Johnson's Baby Lotion on Adult Skin

I am itching to do some makeup EOTDs and LOTDs since a while now but with guests at home I am not getting any time... So for a while you guys are stuck with me doing reviews. Not that my reviews do not need much efforts but as compared to EOTDs and LOTDs, reviews are a little bit less demanding where time constraints are concerned... Don't you agree? :)

Today I shall be reviewing the Johnson's baby lotion and before you raise your eye brows and say to yourself "WTF" let me make it absolutely clear that I bought it when I was out of a moisturiser and needed one pronto! This was the only one available and so I just bought it. I figured if it was good for babies, how could it be bad for me? The truth? Read on ;)

Johnson's Baby Lotion is Clinically proven to be mild and mild it sure is. It has a soft and soothing fragrance, which I love. Once applied it gets absorbed really fast and does not leave a residual oiliness or greasiness. It would be perfect for normal ski…

REVIEW & LOTD: Faces Long Wear Pencil in Navy Blue

While doing the "Meet The Bloggers" feature every Saturday, I have realised (and I am sure that you all have too) that Faces is fast becoming a very popular brand amongst us especially the Faces Long Wear pencils. So much so that a lot of people prefer Faces Long Wear pencils to even Colorbar I-Glides and that ladies and gentlemen is quite a feat for a newly launched brand. So anyways, I got myself a "Navy Blue" from this range and I must say that I am very happy with it. This is my second pencil from Faces after "Turquoise Blue" and well it hasn't failed me either.
This particular shade is a beautiful deep blue that looks stunning on the eye lids.
