REVIEW & SWATCHES: Lakme Absolute Kohl Ultimate

ISLM Writer: Ishleen

Hello everyone!
Today I am here with a very interesting Kajal review—which has been the most raved about almost all over the Indian Beauty market! A very wise man once said—Eyes are the windows to a woman’s soul—and one thing which spark off’s the Indian beauty to its utmost extent is a heavy kohl-rimmed eye! Eye makeup using kohl is something which Indian beauty’s love to bits because we generally do not like using eyeshadows on a daily basis!

So here I am to review one of the best Kajal’s in the Indian market—creamy, jet black, long lasting, smudge proof and all things good!

About the Lakme Absolute Kohl Ultimate Kajal

The first of its kind water-resistant, smudge-proof, jet black kohl pencil for the perfect smokey eye! Its unique moisturizing ceramides soothe and soften lashes. Safe to apply inside the eye while giving the ultimate, long lasting, jet black lines.
  • Moisturizing Ceremides
  • Dermatologically Tested
  • Ultimate Black Color
  • Smudger for creating a smokey look
  • Last upto 16 hrs

Price of Lakme Absolute Kohl Ultimate

It costs INR 785/- for 1.2 grams of product!

I ordered mine online, so I am not sure if it comes with an outer cardboard box or not — I received just the Kohl pencil stick! The pencil has a plastic body with a cap on one end and a smudger on the other. The plastic body of the pencil has the name and other details written on it in silver and is pretty much quite good to look at!

Shade and Pigmentation
Dude, I would not be exaggerating if I take the liberty to call this kohl the blackest of the black kajal’s available in the market. Like seriously, I haven’t seen any kajal have such an impactful pigmentation! The Absolut Kohl has the most perfectly rich, deep black pigments which you can only dream of! Hands down the best kohl when it comes to pigmentation!

Lasting Power
The Lakme Absolut Kohl Ultimate Kajal is by far the best kohl I have ever used on my waterline! I have watery eyes and super-oily under eye area plus lids! Any kajal that I apply tends to slip off my waterline within a few hours! But not the Absolute Kohl Ultimate kajal—this one lasts on my waterline (as thick as I apply it) for a good 5-6 hours before fading just a tiny-teeny bit! Even after 6 hours, it does not completely vanish off my eyes, but is there and is just faded a bit! Nothing that a slight touch up cannot rectify!

No, it does not stay for 16 hours - I do not know why companies make such false attempts! If it stays for 6-7 hours on my super-oily skin, it may last for 8-9 hours on normal and dry skin types, but the 16 hour claim is beyond attainable! Though I have never tried it as an eyeliner (I use the Maybelline drama gel eyeliner for that, which I will be reviewing for you folks soon enough) but I am pretty sure that if you can achieve a pointed tip with this sharpenable pencil, the kohl will stay as an eyeliner for at least 6 hours if not more!

Smudge-proof, waterproof and non-transferable!

Lakme claims the Absolute Kohl Ultimate Kajal to be smudge-proof and non-transferable, and I must say that the brand made no false claims in this aspect! The product is indeed smudge proof and waterproof, plus it does not transfer! If you want to get a quick smokey eye with this eyeliner, you need to smudge it out within first few seconds of application, as it sets very quickly, and sets for good!

The lakme Absolute kohl Ultimate kajal has by far the best consistency any creamy kajal has had! I mean, I am not kidding, it is soo soo creamy that it breaks with the slightest bit of pressure on application even on the waterline! God knows how it will apply as an eyeliner, as you need to apply a little pressure to get precise and crisp lines! The kajal is super smooth and ultra creamy on application and one does not have to tug it along the waterline—one swipe 9or 2 at the max) is all it takes to get that precise tight lined look!

My Experience with Lakme Absolute Kohl Ultimate

Although I have said almost everything that I had to say about this super-gorgeous, and super unique (in terms of texture and staying) Kohl, there still seems a dearth of words to explain how madly I am in love with this product! Though I have my issues with Lakme as a brand, for relaunching the lakme Absolute Kohl (which came with a sharpener and was less pricey) with the cent percent same formulation at a higher price, that too sans the sharpener! Thanfully I have the sharpener from my previous Kohl and I use it to sharpen my new Absolute Kohl ultimate kajal!

About the sharpener, it is pretty acceptable given the size of the pencil, and sharps well (when use with a little pressure). Though, sharpening leads to a lot of product wastage, which I hate! ☹

Coming to the smudger, the old variant of the product also had it! I have use both the Kohl variants from the Lakme Absolut Kohl Ultimate range and as much as I love the actual kohl; my hatred for both the smudgers remains unabated! The kohl’s are as amazing as any kohl can get, and the smudgers are as useless as any smudger can be! Simple! It is hard and not
at all comfortable to use — not on my sensitive eyes at least! I tried it once, and hated how it felt on my eyes!

All said and done, the kajal is a deal in its own just because of its super-amazing formula which stays put for several hours!

Pros of Lakme AbsoluteKohl  Ultimate Kajal

  1. Classy packaging
  2. Intense black colour
  3. Great pigmentation
  4. Super-creamy
  5. Lasts for more than 6 hours
  6. Waterproof
  7. Smudge proof
  8. Comes with a smudger (which I do not like personally)
  9. Can be smoked out for a quick smokey eye
  10. Does not weigh down the lids
  11. Can be used as an eyeliner

Cons of lakme Absolute kohl Ultimate kajal

  1. Sharpenable pencil
  2. Over-priced (extremely)
  3. Useless, attached smudger at the base of the pencil
Overall Rating:

I surely do recommend. I myself am on the second pencil and have no intentions of trying any other pencil than this! If you want an insanely pigmented kohl which stays on and on and on, and you do not mind spending some extra bucks for a kajal pencil—the Lakme Absolut Kohl ultimate Kajal is the way to go for you!

  1. This is by far the best kohl i have used.

    1. I second you Khushi! None other has ever levelled up to lakme's absolute ultimate kohl! :)

Cover The Cover: Harper's Bazaar (India) March 2012

You all know that I love tweaking my blog here and there and making some changes, introducing newer features and well sometimes just hooking the blog onto some social networking site :) Well this time I am introducing a new feature that I promise will be really exciting for all beauty enthusiasts :) To start with this feature is called "Cover The Cover" where I shall be covering the cover pages of our favorite beauty and fashion magazines in terms of make-up. There are times when a certain look on a celeb or a fashion mag just gets to us. Well rather than just mulling over such looks I have decided to give life to such looks (on me) and well do a kind of a faux photo shoot ;) What say? Doesn't it sound like fun? What more? You are all invited to submit your looks with a reference to which magazine and edition you are covering and I'll post it here :)

Today's look is inspired by my latest fav mag Harper's Bazaar. The March edition of Harper's Bazaar is a …

REVIEW & LOTD: Faces Long Wear Pencil in Navy Blue

While doing the "Meet The Bloggers" feature every Saturday, I have realised (and I am sure that you all have too) that Faces is fast becoming a very popular brand amongst us especially the Faces Long Wear pencils. So much so that a lot of people prefer Faces Long Wear pencils to even Colorbar I-Glides and that ladies and gentlemen is quite a feat for a newly launched brand. So anyways, I got myself a "Navy Blue" from this range and I must say that I am very happy with it. This is my second pencil from Faces after "Turquoise Blue" and well it hasn't failed me either.
This particular shade is a beautiful deep blue that looks stunning on the eye lids.

Ooooohss And Aaahhss!! 1. Really really stays on forever. 2. Doesn't smudge on my oily lids even after 8 hours of wear. 3. Friendly to the pocket 4. Faces have become quite easily available now. 5. They do not cause any allergies or reactions. 6. They are waterline safe a…

REVIEW: Johnson's Baby Lotion on Adult Skin

I am itching to do some makeup EOTDs and LOTDs since a while now but with guests at home I am not getting any time... So for a while you guys are stuck with me doing reviews. Not that my reviews do not need much efforts but as compared to EOTDs and LOTDs, reviews are a little bit less demanding where time constraints are concerned... Don't you agree? :)

Today I shall be reviewing the Johnson's baby lotion and before you raise your eye brows and say to yourself "WTF" let me make it absolutely clear that I bought it when I was out of a moisturiser and needed one pronto! This was the only one available and so I just bought it. I figured if it was good for babies, how could it be bad for me? The truth? Read on ;)

Johnson's Baby Lotion is Clinically proven to be mild and mild it sure is. It has a soft and soothing fragrance, which I love. Once applied it gets absorbed really fast and does not leave a residual oiliness or greasiness. It would be perfect for normal ski…
