REVIEW & SWATCHES: Essence XXXL Long-Lasting Lip Gloss Matt Effect - 07 Silky Red

Essence XXXL Long-Lasting Lip Gloss Matt Effect – 07 Silky Red Review, Swatches and FOTD

ISLM Writer: Ishleen

Hello my beauties. The weather out there is gorgeous, isn’t it? And so are you. Trust me! Talking of gorgeous, yes, I finally got a chance to review the most gorgeous drugstore product I possess and that is from a German cosmetic line named Essence. I agree, winters are all about well-defined eyes and bright-n-bold statement lips. Ranging from fuchsia, to bright oranges, to plum, to ox-blood to the good old bright red pout, statement lips are the latest trends.

Who wouldn’t want to see herself all made up, carrying bold eyeliner with perfect flicks and the statement red lips on the upcoming New Years Eve party? Each one of us has dreamt of wearing red lips with utmost confidence, but not many of us have been successful in doing so. I guess, Essence heard the girl-next-door’s cries and brought in the market a very wearable and subtle red, which leans more on the coral side. Thank you Essence!

Product description:

The company describes this beautiful product in the following words. “Matt=a must! If you love this lip trend, the velvety-matt, long-lasting lip glosses are ideal for you! The light, mousse-like texture lasts on your lips for several hours without drying them out. Particularly easy to apply, thanks to the flat applicator.”

Most of the claims hold true for this little tube of amazingness. The product is more of a lip cream than a gloss and it settles to a true matt finish. Girls, let’s be honest here. What can be better than a nice, full, matte red pout?  The texture of the cream is very smooth and mousse-like. It has a very pretty vanilla kind of a smell. Believe me, it’s wonderful. A little secret here, this is a go to in my handbag because every time I feel low, I just smell it. And it DOES make me feel good.

Essence launched the XXXL long lasting lip gloss in two variants, the matt effect line and the XXXL long lasting shine gloss. Today I am reviewing the shade 07 Silky Red from the Matte effect line which I again got from one of my friends travelling to Germany. The XXXL Long lasting lip gloss matt effect come in three pretty shades, 07 Silky Red, 05 Velvet Rose and 06 Soft Nude. Although Soft Nude appears to be too light for our Indian skin tones, and would definitely wash me out; but I am eyeing the shade Velvet Rose and would definitely review it once I get my hands on that adorable beauty.

Price of Essence XXXL Long Lasting Lip Gloss Matte Effect:

It costs INR 279/- for 4.5 ml of product

Given the price and the quality as well as the quantity, the lip cream is worth the bucks. The product comes in a sturdy, transparent, plastic tube with a black screw lid. The transparent tube makes it easy to identify the shade when in a hurry and on the lid is a cute little sticker which differentiates the matte products from the rest of the glosses. How thoughtful!

My experience:

A lip product, red shade, and that too at a discount? How can I ever bad-mouth such a beauty? ;)

Jokes apart, this product stay true to its claim and is a pure matte with medium to full coverage which can be toned down, as per individual preference. The flat-base applicator was a big dud for me as it did not give me an even application. Would I like this product more if it had a q-tip or a doe-foot applicator? Yes, please! The thing I noticed and even liked about the product was that it had holy pigmentation. It just took one swipe to get the exact color in the tube to show up on the lips. Once the creamy texture of the product dries off, it sets to the true matte finish that Essence claims. And yes, it is very long-lasting; given it is a drugstore product. It lasted me for about a good 2.5-3 hours after which it started fading away, though evenly, and left a nice rosy tint to my lips.

Give this lippie a try if you like:

  1. Bold yet wearable red lip colour
  2. Vanilla cupcake scented products
  3. A matte finish lip cream
  4. A lippie which does not feel sticky and is super light
  5. Steering clear from hair-glued-to-lips kind of embarrassing situations
  6. Flat-foot applicator

Skip it if:

  1. You are more into subtle shades
  2. You prefer glossy finish over matte finish
  3. Lip creams are not your thing

I would definitely like to say that this product would be a sure-shot hit or miss for each individual according to their personal tastes.

Final Verdict:
I did find my true red lip with Essence’s XXXL long lasting lip gloss stay matt in 07 Silky Red. The color is a bright orangey-red which would suit both warm and cool undertones but would definitely pop up more on the warm golden Indian undertones and give the face a much needed flush of color and brightness.  It feels amazing and super light-weight on the lips. It is as if it’s my lips but better.

In any case, it’s the holiday season. And each one is craving a bright and bold red pout. This, my gorgeous lady is your go to red for the season. Go grab them as and when you can.

Overall Rating:

Enjoy your merry-red Christmas.

You are all invited to submit your looks with a reference to which magazine and edition you are covering and I'll post it here :)

REVIEW & LOTD: Faces Long Wear Pencil in Navy Blue

While doing the "Meet The Bloggers" feature every Saturday, I have realised (and I am sure that you all have too) that Faces is fast becoming a very popular brand amongst us especially the Faces Long Wear pencils. So much so that a lot of people prefer Faces Long Wear pencils to even Colorbar I-Glides and that ladies and gentlemen is quite a feat for a newly launched brand. So anyways, I got myself a "Navy Blue" from this range and I must say that I am very happy with it. This is my second pencil from Faces after "Turquoise Blue" and well it hasn't failed me either.
This particular shade is a beautiful deep blue that looks stunning on the eye lids.

REVIEW: Johnson's Baby Lotion on Adult Skin

I am itching to do some makeup EOTDs and LOTDs since a while now but with guests at home I am not getting any time... So for a while you guys are stuck with me doing reviews. Not that my reviews do not need much efforts but as compared to EOTDs and LOTDs, reviews are a little bit less demanding where time constraints are concerned... Don't you agree? :)

Today I shall be reviewing the Johnson's baby lotion and before you raise your eye brows and say to yourself "WTF" let me make it absolutely clear that I bought it when I was out of a moisturiser and needed one pronto! This was the only one available and so I just bought it. I figured if it was good for babies, how could it be bad for me? The truth? Read on ;)

Johnson's Baby Lotion is Clinically proven to be mild and mild it sure is. It has a soft and soothing fragrance, which I love. Once applied it gets absorbed really fast and does not leave a residual oiliness or greasiness. It would be perfect for normal ski…
