LOTD & Tips: Jennifer Lopez Inspired Brown Smokey Eye Makeup

Brown Smokey Eyes using MAC Texture, MAC Folie, MAC Cork

Jennifer Lopez Inspired Makeup

Jennifer Lopez has been my favorite since the day I heard and saw the video for the song If You Had My Love. I started out being hooked to her exotic features, sensuality, her sexy yet managing to be innocent sort of an attitude and well her songs... Later I was smitten by her makeup. Why haven't I ever done any post inspired by her makeup earlier is something that is a mystery to me as well... But then they do say Better Late Than Never isn't it?

If you do an image search on Google for Jennifer Lopez's makeup, you'll get picture after picture of her hot and sultry makeup that her makeup artist captures everytime! But there are a few signature points that her makeup always has and let me list them out for you...
1. Bronzed and Tanned skin
2. Brown or Taupe Smokey Eyes.
3. Her eye makeup generally borders towards Grunge i.e. they are generally never neat and are rather a little untidy sorts.
4. Contoured face but not very obviously.
5. She always sports a nude glossy lip.
6. Extremely heavy usage of a highlighter on the inner corners of the eyes
7. False Lashes

Tips & Tricks To Achieve Jennifer Lopez's Makeup Look

  1. If you are fair or light medium, choose a foundation shade that is one shade darker for your skin tone. I have used Maxfactor's Second Skin Foundation in the shade Bronze. I match the shade Golden but I also own Bronze for my tanned days :)
  2. When doing a brown smokey eye, choose 3 shades of brown. One shade should be an Orange based brown for the crease, a dark chocolate brown shade for the smokey effect and a muddy light brown for blending harsh edges. I have used MAC Texture, MAC Folie and MAC Cork.
  3. Choose a nice shimmer highlighter shade that should golden based rather than silver. I like using either MAC Retrospeck or MAC Ricepaper depending on the amount of shimmer I need.
  4. Leave your brows partially unfilled. I mean do fill in your brows but don't let it be perfect. Jennifer Lopez's eyebrows aren't very precisely tamed.
  5. When going for glossy neutral lip, instead of using a glossy brown lippy or a brown gloss, aim for a matte brown lippy and a transparent gloss over it. This way you can control the intensity of color and gloss on the lips :)

When I did my look inspired by her makeup, I did try to keep all of the above points in mind and though I cannot imagine ever looking like her (I wish I could!) but I am not very unhappy with my version as well...
It's very obvious that my eye makeup turned out neater and not all that messy like her signature style, I guess I'll need to practice more :)

But of course you guys are the final judges :)

Cover The Cover: Harper's Bazaar (India) March 2012

You all know that I love tweaking my blog here and there and making some changes, introducing newer features and well sometimes just hooking the blog onto some social networking site :) Well this time I am introducing a new feature that I promise will be really exciting for all beauty enthusiasts :) To start with this feature is called "Cover The Cover" where I shall be covering the cover pages of our favorite beauty and fashion magazines in terms of make-up. There are times when a certain look on a celeb or a fashion mag just gets to us. Well rather than just mulling over such looks I have decided to give life to such looks (on me) and well do a kind of a faux photo shoot ;) What say? Doesn't it sound like fun? What more? You are all invited to submit your looks with a reference to which magazine and edition you are covering and I'll post it here :)

Today's look is inspired by my latest fav mag Harper's Bazaar. The March edition of Harper's Bazaar is a …

REVIEW: Johnson's Baby Lotion on Adult Skin

I am itching to do some makeup EOTDs and LOTDs since a while now but with guests at home I am not getting any time... So for a while you guys are stuck with me doing reviews. Not that my reviews do not need much efforts but as compared to EOTDs and LOTDs, reviews are a little bit less demanding where time constraints are concerned... Don't you agree? :)

Today I shall be reviewing the Johnson's baby lotion and before you raise your eye brows and say to yourself "WTF" let me make it absolutely clear that I bought it when I was out of a moisturiser and needed one pronto! This was the only one available and so I just bought it. I figured if it was good for babies, how could it be bad for me? The truth? Read on ;)

Johnson's Baby Lotion is Clinically proven to be mild and mild it sure is. It has a soft and soothing fragrance, which I love. Once applied it gets absorbed really fast and does not leave a residual oiliness or greasiness. It would be perfect for normal ski…

REVIEW & LOTD: Faces Long Wear Pencil in Navy Blue

While doing the "Meet The Bloggers" feature every Saturday, I have realised (and I am sure that you all have too) that Faces is fast becoming a very popular brand amongst us especially the Faces Long Wear pencils. So much so that a lot of people prefer Faces Long Wear pencils to even Colorbar I-Glides and that ladies and gentlemen is quite a feat for a newly launched brand. So anyways, I got myself a "Navy Blue" from this range and I must say that I am very happy with it. This is my second pencil from Faces after "Turquoise Blue" and well it hasn't failed me either.
This particular shade is a beautiful deep blue that looks stunning on the eye lids.

Ooooohss And Aaahhss!! 1. Really really stays on forever. 2. Doesn't smudge on my oily lids even after 8 hours of wear. 3. Friendly to the pocket 4. Faces have become quite easily available now. 5. They do not cause any allergies or reactions. 6. They are waterline safe a…
